Purpose & History

SPEAK Network is a group of volunteers who believe suicide is preventable. We implement evidence-based strategies to destigmatize suicide and to improve best practices that help support persons at risk for suicide.

Our Purpose

SPEAK Network provides evidence-based education and training programs in the Black Hills community. Our programs are designed to empower persons and community networks to make a positive difference in their own lives and promote safety for those in crisis.

Our History

SEPAK Network is a 501c3 founded in 2020 by Tamara Keefner PhD, RN, CNE. while working in a behavioral health unit, witnessed many unnecessary hospitalizations for suicidal individuals and recognized a gap in care for persons who struggle with suicidal thoughts and behaviors. To address this gap she developed the SPEAK Network. Dr. Keefner has a vision of a community that is empowered to recognize signs of suicide and is prepared to take action to intervene and promote safety and prevent suicide.
